The SS19 Oblivion collection is a complex and controversial work of art. It stands out for its massive volume, provocative suspender pieces, knitwear, mirror headpiece, and delicate fabrics such as silk, velvet, and pure cashmere. The labyrinth, a recurring motif in the collection, represents our personal thoughts and feelings, a metaphorical maze in which one can get lost.
The garments were created using a variety of techniques, including hand and machine sewing, hand embroidery, fabric manipulation, draping, and digital printing. The designer also employed industrial fabric press and laser cutting to achieve the desired effects. The collection was showcased at the New York Fashion Week in September 2018, after a year-long design process.
The collection's creation was not without its challenges. More than 85% of the collection is hand-stitched, and working with delicate fabrics under a strict deadline was a significant hurdle. The designer also faced difficulties in finding a company that could precisely execute laser-cuts on the chosen material for the mirror headpieces.
Despite these challenges, the collection has been internationally recognized and lauded. It was awarded Silver in the A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award in 2019, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation. The collection was praised for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, evoking positive feelings, amazement, and wonder among the audience.
The SS19 Oblivion collection is a testament to Kim Tiziana Rottmuller's ability to weave symbolism and spirituality into fashion. It is a surrealistic womenswear line with an haute couture feeling, a wearable work of art that encourages the wearer to navigate the labyrinth of their thoughts and feelings without losing themselves.
